Sort a List Online — Free

Runs 100% in your browser — your files never leave your device.

Lists copied from forms, spreadsheets, and logs often need ordering before they can be compared or published. Paste one item per line, choose alphabetical, natural, length, or numeric sorting, switch direction if needed, and copy the reordered list without uploading it.

How it works

  1. 1

    Paste one item per line

Blank and repeated lines are preserved unless another tool removes them.

  2. 2

    Choose the sort order

Pick the comparison mode and ascending or descending direction.

  3. 3

    Copy the sorted list

The result updates live and remains entirely local.

About this tool

What sorting covers

The tool orders your lines alphabetically or numerically, ascending or descending, with case-insensitive comparison available. One paste, one click, a deterministic order that every reader can navigate without hunting.

Sorted versus original order

Original order carries meaning (chronology, priority) — sort only when the list is a true set of equals. Reference lists, option menus, and inventories want sorting; task lists and step sequences usually do not. When unsure, sort, read, and undo if the meaning broke.

Prepare before you sort

Sorting exposes hidden mess: leading spaces change positions and duplicates cluster together. Run whitespace removal and deduplication before sorting so the result is clean on the first pass.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between this and the list sorter?

Nothing functionally — this page opens the same sorting job under the phrasing people search for. Both sort your lines with the same options.

Does sorting modify the lines themselves?

No — lines move as complete units, byte-identical. Only their order changes.

How does it sort mixed content like names and numbers?

Alphabetical comparison treats numbers as text (so 10 sorts before 2); pick the numeric option when your lines are figures. Match the mode to the content.
