About this tool
What converts well, and what does not
Text-based PDFs — anything you can select text in — convert cleanly: reports, letters, contracts, papers. The extraction preserves reading order, paragraph breaks and page boundaries, so the Word file is ready for real editing rather than cleanup. What does not carry over: complex multi-column layouts may reorder, tables lose their grid, and scanned pages are images with no text layer at all — those need OCR before this tool can help. Fonts and exact visual layout also stay behind in the PDF; a DOCX is for editing the words, not reproducing the print.
Why the output is a real .docx
Some converters produce a .doc file — a format Microsoft retired in 2007 — or rename an HTML file to .doc and hope Word sorts it out. This tool writes a genuine Office Open XML document: a zip container with a proper word/document.xml, openable by Word, Google Docs, LibreOffice and Pages without a compatibility shim. - Yes — it is a real Office Open XML document. Every paragraph is a normal Word paragraph you can restyle, annotate and extend.
- Does the layout look exactly like the PDF?
- No, and no text extractor can promise that. The words, order and paragraph structure carry over; fonts, columns and graphics stay in the original PDF. For pixel-identical sharing, keep using the PDF.
- What about scanned PDFs?
- Scanned pages are photographs without a text layer, so there is nothing to extract — the tool reports empty pages rather than guessing. OCR is the missing step.
- Is my PDF uploaded?
- No. Extraction and DOCX packaging run entirely in your browser. You can turn off your connection after the page loads and the conversion still works.
- Word versus DOC — which do I get?
- You get .docx, the modern format. The legacy binary .doc has been obsolete since 2007 and fewer tools open it safely; there is no good reason to generate it.
