AnkhKit

AnkhKit — a Privacy-Focused Hub of Free Everyday Tools

Bookmark roulette is a real problem. The PDF merger lives on one site, the background remover on another, the QR generator on a third — each with its own ads, cookie banners, upload limits, and privacy policy of unknown ambition. AnkhKit is the alternative to that sprawl: one organized hub of dozens of distinct, free tools that covers the everyday file and text work people actually do, with privacy treated as an architecture decision rather than a slogan.

What AnkhKit is

AnkhKit is a collection of small, single-purpose tools organized into clear categories — think of it as a well-sorted toolbox rather than one bloated app:

  • PDF tools — merge, split, rotate, delete pages, extract text, add page numbers, watermarks, unlock, and a server-side compressor with three quality presets
  • Image tools and converters — crop, resize, rotate, filters, background removal, and format conversions including JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, HEIC, TIFF, BMP, ICO, and even vectorization
  • Video and audio — format conversions, trimming, compression, GIF making, the full audio cross-matrix, and on-device transcription
  • Text and data — counters, case conversion, list operations, diff, CSV/JSON/XML/Excel conversions
  • Color, calculators, and generators — color schemes and converters, percentage and date math, QR codes, passwords, random data
  • Developer, network, and crypto tools — formatters, JWT and URL parsers, subnet calculators, hashes, encryption, UUIDs
  • Ebook tools — EPUB/MOBI/AZW3 conversions plus text-to-EPUB and extraction
  • AI tools — paraphrasing, summarizing, caption and outline writing, transcription, text-to-speech, and background removal

Every tool lives at its own address, does one job well, and links back into its category — so the hub stays navigable instead of becoming a second bookmark folder.

Privacy-focused by architecture, not by promise

Most “online tools” are upload forms: your file travels to a server, gets processed, and you trust the operator’s retention policy — or hope one exists. AnkhKit is built the other way around.

Whenever the browser can do the job, the job happens in your browser. Merging PDFs, resizing images, converting between formats, hashing passwords, generating QR codes — these are all local operations, and here they actually run locally. Your file never leaves the device. You can watch it in your browser’s network tab: no upload happens, because no upload is needed.

For the jobs a browser genuinely cannot do — real PDF compression re-encodes embedded images; HEIC encoding needs codecs browsers don’t ship — a small number of tools use our servers, and the trade is stated plainly on every page: files are auto-deleted within 1 hour, download links are cryptographically signed and expire with the file, and nothing is ever reused, shared, or used for training. Even passwords entered for the PDF unlocker ride a queue that is deleted on completion — they are never written to storage that outlives the job.

The claim on every page is derived from what the code actually does, because the badge text comes from the same registry that builds the tool.

Free means free

Every tool on AnkhKit is free, with no tool count that resets monthly and no watermarks. The AI tools need a free account — that is what funds the compute — but the everyday tools need nothing at all: no account, no email address, no trial.

Built to be found, built to be fast

The hub is organized around a command-palette search (press ⌘K or / anywhere) that indexes every tool by name, category, and the phrases people actually search for — type “combine pdf” and land on the right page. Categories group related tools so neighbors are one click away, and related-tool suggestions appear on every page, so a merge often ends with a discover that a rotate-and-compress would finish the job.

The point

Software for small jobs should be small, honest, and respectful of the files it touches. That is the whole thesis behind AnkhKit — dozens of focused tools, one organized home, and a privacy architecture you can verify instead of a promise you have to take on faith.
