YAML Tree Viewer Online — Free

Runs 100% in your browser — your files never leave your device.

Large YAML configuration files are easier to understand as a hierarchy than as indentation alone. Paste YAML to parse it into a collapsible tree of maps, arrays, and scalar values, then sort object keys when comparing sections without changing sequence order.

How it works

  1. 1

    Paste the YAML document

  2. 2

    Explore nested branches

  3. 3

    Toggle key sorting if useful

About this tool

What the viewer checks

Paste YAML and the tool parses it with a real YAML engine — reporting syntax errors with their line numbers, then rendering the parsed structure as readable formatted output. YAML's whitespace-as-grammar makes it the format where invisible characters break everything, which is exactly what a real parser catches.

The errors it catches

Inconsistent indentation, tabs mixed into spaces, unquoted special characters, and missing colons — the classic Kubernetes and CI pipeline failures. A parser error naming the line beats an hour of staring at indentation that "looks right".

Format as you fix

Re-rendering the parsed result normalizes indentation to a consistent width, so a fixed file comes out clean on the other side. For JSON equivalents, the JSON viewer runs the same workflow on the other common config format.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my YAML parse differently in other tools?

YAML has a large spec with optional features — anchors, multiple documents, type inference. This viewer parses the core syntax most configs use; exotic features may behave differently elsewhere.

Why is my value a string instead of a number?

YAML infers types from unquoted values, and version differences changed the inference rules (the infamous "norway problem": no becomes false). Quote values when you need them as strings.

Does it support multiple documents in one file?

The parser reads the first document in a multi-document file. Split documents by their --- separators and paste them individually.
