How resizing works
Resizing re-draws the image at your target dimensions by sampling the original pixels. Shrinking merges pixel information, which is why downscaled photos stay sharp. Enlarging has to invent pixels, so upscaled images soften — the further you push, the softer they get.

Can I enlarge a small image?
You can, but expect softness — enlargement invents pixels that were never recorded. Small enlargements (up to about 150 percent) look fine; big jumps look blurry no matter the tool.
Will resizing reduce the file size?
Almost always — fewer pixels means less data. Shrinking a 4000-pixel photo to 1200 pixels typically cuts the file to a fraction of its original size.
Does resizing change the aspect ratio?
