What a numeronym is
A numeronym abbreviates a word with its first letter, the count of letters in between, and its last letter: "internationalization" becomes i18n (18 letters between the i and the n). The tool computes these for any word you give it.

Why is accessibility abbreviated a11y?
The convention: first letter, count of the letters between, last letter. "Accessibility" has eleven letters between its a and y — the number is literal, not cute.
What happens with short words?
Words with two or three letters produce trivial or empty numeronyms — the convention only means something for longer words. The tool computes whatever you give it honestly.
Are numeronyms case-sensitive?
The first and last letters keep the case you provide, and the industry conventions are lowercase — i18n, not I18N. Type your word in the case you want out.
